USB 3.0 Interface

The iShot® XBlock® USB 3.0 interface board has been specifically designed to work with Sony’s FCB-MA130 camera. Enabling all features on this exceptional camera to be utilized over USB 3.0.

The small size of the FCB-MA130 is a major advantage in many applications and the USB 3.0 interface has been designed to complement, allowing a very small total solution. It also takes its power from the USB host computer allowing single cable operation.

The iShot® XBlock® USB 3.0 interface board connects to the FCB-MA130 via an FCC cable. It connects to the CMOS parallel interface and the I2C control lines. The FPGA on board convert’s commands received via USB, to the appropriate I2C protocol commands on the camera.

A DMA channel on the FPGA is used to read the data and send it to the USB3.0 channel.

The hardware also adds the appropriate UVC header allowing easy interfacing on the host PC. Standard UVC controls are implemented and other functions can be handled via extended commands that implement register access.

All resolutions and frame rates supported by the camera including still images can be streamed via USB3.0. Including 1080p @ 30fps.

Remotely Inspect Hard To Reach Surfaces in Harsh Environments with the iShot® Pan, Tilt & Zoom camera, the PTZ-550 Camera

InterTest, Inc. of Columbia, NJ presents the newest addition to their Pan, Tilt & Zoom camera family, the iShot® PTZ-550 Camera System. The PTZ-550 Camera System offers high quality viewing solutions for a variety surfaces including storage containers and can be used in other industrial and surveillance applications.  Using an advanced Sony industrial zoom block camera packaged in a submersible, robust housing, the PTZ-550 achieves superb camera images in nearly all harsh environments. The simple control unit is user friendly and makes no application too difficult for remote vision.

PTZ 550 INSPECTION CAMERA SYSTEM

The PTZ-550 houses the highest quality standard definition camera in InterTest Inc.’s PTZ format to date. The PTZ-550 uses the Sony FCB-EX1020 industrial block camera module featuring a ¼” EXView HAD CCD progressive scan image sensor with 380,000 effective pixels and boasts up to 550 TV lines of resolution. The block camera module uses a motorized lens which achieves 36x optical zoom paired with 12x digital zoom capability (432x total). The Sony FCB-EX1020 camera also features shutter speed, iris, focus, zoom and gain control. These controls paired with two 35 watt halogen spot and flood lamps give the operator a wide and bright field of light to see in the most poorly lit conditions.

With high quality imaging, the PTZ-550 is rugged and submersible. It can withstand the environments of storage tanks for hazardous materials and is rated to be submersed in water to 100 feet. The PTZ-550 camera head and motor assembly are inside anodized aluminum housing. Measuring 5.50 inches in diameter, the PTZ-550 can fit into small openings of containers and can continually operate in 7.25 inch spherical envelop. The camera cable is a robust, Kevlar-braided, polyurethane-jacketed cable. An IP-67 rated Impulse connector connects this durable cable to the camera head, which can act as a tether to lower the PTZ-550 into inspection areas. There are also optional mounting accessories for the PTZ-550, such as a magnetic base and extension poles, to help with more general remote vision applications such as power generation, surveillance and manufacturing vision.

An operator can conduct all camera, illumination and movement controls from a simple control unit. The internal interface board developed by InterTest Inc. allows simple switch commands of the camera’s shutter speed, gain, iris, focus and zoom control. There is a RS-232 port on the back of the control unit to allow the operator to command the camera functions through the Sony VISCA software via computer commands. Also by using switch commands, the control unit can continuously pan the camera head 360 degrees and tilt the camera head a total of 245 degrees.

QN43H – Inspect Submersed Environments with the iShot® 7mm Micro Camera

The QN43H 7mm Micro Camera offers high quality viewing solutions for inspecting submersed, hard-to-reach cavities and surfaces and a variety of aerospace industry components. Using a ¼ inch CCD sensor and a selection of interchangeable fixed focus lenses, the QN43H 7mm Micro Camera takes image quality beyond that of a standard video borescope with 470 lines of image resolution for a crisp image on a large monitor.Along with offering a high quality image, the QN43H 7mm Micro Camera is versatile: the camera head can be integrated into a variety of body modifications, have various cable lengths (3.5 and 15 meters standard), can be paired with white or UV illumination and can be housed for waterproofing or high temperature applications. Barrel Inspection Camera System for Liquid Container’s Concealed Interior

Challenge:  The customer came to us with a specific request to inspect the enclosed interior of 55 Gallon Drums used for mixing fluids.  After the drums have been used they require complete barrel inspection to ensure the interior is free of residue as well as check the integrity of the welded joints. Click Here to see the iShot® Handi Wand
handi wand suspended from ceiling for inspectionThe surface area is relatively large for an inspection with a small area for entrance into the drum. (1-1/4″)  In the past, the customer used video probes, however, increased the length of the inspection considerably due to the smaller field of view as well as lack of light intensity.  The other drawback was in using a video probe, the likelihood of damaging the equipment was increased because they are not robust and are very expensive to repair.

Solution:  The barrel inspection solution was to modify our iShot Handi-wand and ruggedized the connector, so it was able to completely inspect the interior of the dark beverage drum. The customer wanted to keep the tool hanging from the ceiling so it was accessible inline for their process, we incorporated a retractable ceiling mount to obtain easy access to the camera wand.  The monitors are attached to the wall making the Handi-Wand a convenient barrel inspection system that was almost native to there facility, as opposed to a piece of equipment that had to be locked away every evening.  Our engineers altered the shape of our product’s wand section in such a way that the head of the unit could look back on its own handle.  This was necessary so that once the unit went into the drum for inspection it was able to look at the underside of the entrance portal. Along with doing this our engineers changed the camera head of the unit to the OWL camera to increase the light sensitivity due to the dark interior of the beverage drum.

Results:  Our customer is still using the product and has been successful.  The customer has saved nearly 30,000 dollars on every system they have purchased and have been able to continue to do there inspections faster and with less damage than in the past.

Core Technologies Within the discipline of RVI, InterTest specializes in video and optical inspection under white, ultraviolet and infrared light. RVI tools allow users to see flaws in hidden and hazardous places off limits to the naked eye. InterTest manufactures an extensive line of Remote Visual Inspection equipment, from borescopes and light sources to robotic camera integrations and custom engineered designs – built to answer customer specific applications. Eddy current testing identifies surface flaws on conductive ferrous and non-ferrous parts, and can be used to sort alloys and heat treat condition. Penetrate and magnetic particle inspection techniques identify surface flaws with fluorescing particles that are drawn, by capillary action or magnetization, to flaws.
